As energy production evolves toward more renewable sources, battery energy storage systems (BESS) have become increasingly essential. BESS sites enable energy from renewable sources, such as solar and wind, to be stored and released when power is needed the most.
At Rummel Construction, we’re using our heavy civil expertise to support important BESS projects for the industry.
Our deep experience in managing the logistics, site preparation, and execution of energy projects has given us the tools to tackle the infrastructure needed for these high-demand systems. From excavation and road construction to erosion control and rip rap installation, we know how to get the site in shape, no matter how challenging the project.
Experts with projects to prove it
A prime example of our experience was our work on Phase 1 of the Tucson Electric Power (TEP) Roadrunner Reserve project in Pima County, Arizona. When complete, this system will be the largest on the TEP grid and among the largest in the state.
The first phase of this project involved the installation of a 200 megawatt, four-hour BESS, a large undertaking that required precision, efficiency, and the expertise of our team of hard-working employee-owners.
The scope of this BESS project was substantial, spanning a 20-acre site. Our employee-owners handled all aspects of the heavy civil construction, including:
When it comes to energy storage, we know the details matter. From site preparation to managing the materials flow, we take pride in ensuring that the logistical side of the project is seamless. Our employee-owners bring it all together successfully, even when the timeline is tight and the site is challenging.
We’re familiar with working in remote locations, handling environmental considerations, and pushing through weather challenges. Meanwhile, safety and compliance remain a top priority for our employee-owners and our communities.
The bigger picture
Battery storage is more than a hot topic; it’s a game changer for the energy industry. As we shift toward a greener, more sustainable energy grid, systems like BESS are vital in storing renewable energy for use when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing. We’re proud to play a role in these cutting-edge projects, helping to build the infrastructure that makes it all possible.
